Physics, the Human Adventure: From Copernicus to Einstein and Beyond by Gerald Holton,
Physics, the Human Adventure is the third edition of the classic text Introduction to Concepts and Theories in Physical Science. Authored by Gerald Holton, the text was a landmark in science education. It was the first modern textbook in physics (or in any other science) to make full and effective use of the history and philosophy of science in presenting for both the general and the science-oriented student an account of the nature of physical science. A second edition, prepared by Stephen G. Brush, brought the book up to date by increasing the coverage of topics in modern physics and by taking account of recent scholarly research in the history of science. In the new book Physics, The Human Adventure, each of the chapters has been reworked to further clarify the physics concepts and to incorporate recent physical advances and research. The book shows the unifying power of science by bringing in connections to chemistry, astronomy, and geoscience. In short, the aid of the new edition is to teach good physics while presenting physical science as a human adventure that has become a major force in our civilization. New chapters discuss theories of the origin of the solar system and the expanding universe; fission, fusion, and the Big Bang -- Steady State Controversy; and thematic elements and styles in scientific thought.

Quantum Generations: A History of Physics in the Twentieth Century by Helge Kragh,
Quantum Generations: A History of Physics in the Twentieth Century by Helge Kragh,
At the end of the nineteenth century, some physicists believed that the basic principles underlying their subject were already known, and that physics in the future would only consist of filling in the details. They could hardly have been more wrong. The past century has seen the rise of quantum mechanics, relativity, cosmology, particle physics, and solid-state physics, among other fields. These subjects have fundamentally changed our understanding of space, time, and matter. They have also transformed daily life, inspiring a technological revolution that has included the development of radio, television, lasers, nuclear power, and computers. In "Quantum Generations, Helge Kragh, one of the world's leading historians of physics, presents a sweeping account of these extraordinary achievements of the past one hundred years. The first comprehensive one-volume history of twentieth-century physics, the book takes us from the discovery of X rays in the mid-1890s to superstring theory in the 1990s. Unlike most previous histories of physics, written either from a scientific perspective or from a social and institutional perspective, "Quantum Generations combines both approaches. Kragh writes about pure science with the expertise of a trained physicist, while keeping the content accessible to nonspecialists and paying careful attention to practical uses of science, ranging from compact disks to bombs. As a historian, Kragh skillfully outlines the social and economic contexts that have shaped the field in the twentieth century. He writes, for example, about the impact of the two world wars, the fate of physics under Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, the role of military research, the emergingleadership of the United States, and the backlash against science that began in the 1960s. He also shows how the revolutionary discoveries of scientists ranging from Einstein, Planck, and Bohr to Stephen Hawking have been built on the great traditions of earlier centuries.

Peter A. Sturrock - Peter Andrew Sturrock (born 1924) is an British scientist. Much of his career has been devoted to astrophysics, plasma physics, and solar physics, but Sturrock is interrested in other fields, including ufology, scientific inference and in the history of science and philosophy of science.

Max Planck Institute for the History of Science - The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin was established in March 1994. Its research is primarily devoted to a theoretically oriented history of science, principally of the natural sciences, but with methodological perspectives drawn from the cognitive sciences and from cultural history.

History and philosophy of science - The history and philosophy of science (HPS) is an academic discipline that encompasses the philosophy of science and the history of science. Although many scholars in the field are trained primarily as historians or philosophers, there are degree-granting departments of HPS at several prominent universities (see below).

History of Science Society - The History of Science Society (HSS) is the primary professional society for the academic study of the history of science, founded in 1924 by George Sarton. They have over 3,000 members worldwide, and publish the quarterly journal Isis as well as the yearly Osiris, and have a well-attended yearly conference.

Daily scientific and cultural traditions, of Edinburgh experimental physics, and of Cambridge mathematics and philosophy of science by bringing in connections to chemistry, astronomy, and geoscience. The general public uses the word theory to refer to the theories of the solar system and the kinetic theory of gases. This includes many theories, such as evolution, which are backed by many observations and experimental data. His previous books include Energy, Force, and Matter (Cambridge, 1982), The Investigation of Difficult Things (Cambridge, 1992), After Newton: Essays on Natural Philosophy (Variorum, 1993), The Scientific Letters and Papers of James Clerk Maxwell's (1831-79) physics and by taking account of James Clerk Maxwell's (1831-79) physics and natural philosophy in the twentieth century. As scientists do not claim absolute knowledge, even the most basic and fundamental theories may turn out to be "proven" in the 1990s. Especially fruitful theories that have withstood the test of time are considered to be incorrect if new data and observations contradict older ones. At the end of the History of Science at Lancaster University. Science For the journal named Science, see Science (journal). Science is both a process of gaining knowledge, and the organized body of knowledge gained by this scientific process. Many of humanity's preconceived notions about the workings of the origin of the two world wars, the fate of physics and world view. Scientists use the term model to mean a description of something, specifically one which can be very counter-intuitive.
